Patient Eligibility Updates in eServices

July 31, 2016 by Jill Schuerman

As a provider, do you wonder how often eligibility information is updated in HETS? The eServices application is required to use CMS’ HETS 270/271 system for all eligibility inquiries. Although eServices pulls data from HETS in real time, the data available in the HETS 270/271 system is only updated at certain times. CMS currently pulls the updated data Tuesday through Saturday during the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. This data is then uploaded into HETS during the hours of 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. As soon as updated data is available in the HETS 270/271 system, providers will be able to view it in eServices.

Palmetto GBA encourages providers to set up a CERT point of contact (POC). This person will be responsible for receiving all correspondence regarding the CERT program. Some facilities designate the compliance officer, Health Information Management, facility practice manager, etc. To supply or update the CERT contractor with a new POC, access certprovider.com  .

Jill Schuerman, Founder and CEO of Schuerman Business Consulting, LLC. will be presenting TAHC&H’s 47th Annual Meeting on August 11 in Frisco, Texas.   The presentation is titled “Hospice Billing-Getting the Best Start to Your Medicare Collections”.

Learn to use the HIQA to look for hospice eligibility, determine benefit period information for Certifications, determine your episodes of care information for the new tiered payment system.  Know the difference between a Medicare Replacement HMO and an insurance that creates a potential MSP situation.  Investigate the requirements for submitting the Notice of Election, Notice of Change, and when Notice of Termination/Revocations is needed.  There are times you can get an exception to the 5 day NOE rule, so learn when you can and how to bill for that exception.

Jill Schuerman has over 12 years Hospice billing experience.  This includes over 5 years as a Central Billing Office Director handling 17 providers caring for an ADC of up to 1500 patients in 6 states.
